One-Pager — IRA-H Area IV Flight by Reference to Instruments (Lessons 08–10)

The scan (control / performance)

Control instruments = attitude indicator + power (you change these). Performance = altimeter, ASI, VSI, heading, turn (you read these to confirm).
Attitude indicator is the hub of the cross-check; keep the scan moving to avoid fixation.

Basic maneuvers — Establish, Trim, Cross-check, Adjust

Straight-and-level: wings level, heading steady, small pitch/power for altitude.
Standard-rate turn: 3°/sec (360° in 2 min); hold altitude, lead the rollout.
Climbs/descents: set pitch + power for the rate/airspeed, trim, cross-check; lead level-off ~10% of vertical speed.

Recovery from unusual attitudes

Nose-low (airspeed up, descending): reduce power, level wings, ease to level pitch.
Nose-high (airspeed down, climbing): add power, gently lower the nose to level.
Robinson: never abrupt forward cyclic — low-G risks mast bumping. Gently aft cyclic to reload the rotor before lateral cyclic.
Trust the panel, recover smoothly, don't over-control.
